I joined the BUDC in 1960 and finished there in 1995, when I went to work for AD waste, retiring in 1997 - 8. The building was being used as a depot then when I started. In the depot, there was room to store two bin waggons, one highways waggon, one housing van and one pick-up for the supervisor. This was when the Buckley population was about 8 - 9,000.
In the lower storey on the left was the joiner's shop and under the steps was the sand and cement store. Behind the group in the photo was our staff canteen which had a pot-bellied stove. On the left was Billy Iball's, the supervisor's, office. In the early days he rode round on a bike checking on his staff (all Buckley people) but later he was provided with a pick-up. He had a staff of about 40. There were ten bin men, for example.
Our boss, Mr Watkin used to join us at the Black Horse for a Christmas drink.
The building was owned by Alec Hughes. After the BUDC days at some stage an upholsterer had his business there.
