Frank Keighley's Bronze Oak Leaf Emblem "

The bronze oak leaf emblem is c. 2 1/2 centimetres long. It was awarded to servicemen in both world wars and it was worn to signify a Mention in Despatches.

 

Wikipedia states: A soldier mentioned is despatches (or dispatches) (MiD) is one whose name appears in an official report written by a superior officer and sent to the high command, in which is described the soldier's gallant or meritorious action in the face of the enemy.
