The Playing Field on the Higher Common"

Higher Common, Buckley

1950

The owner of the Mountain Lane Colliery gave the land for the playgound. The Miners' Institute and a Trinity Fund Grant paid for the playground and toilet block. On 15th July 1936 the playground was officially opened by Lady Gladstone. All the Buckley children walked from the Council Offices to the playground for the event.

By the 1950s, 60s, it was falling into disrepair and was considered dangerous so it was demolished and the area integrated into the Higher Common.
