Arthur Roberts on active service in the Royal Naval Air Service"

Donibristle, Fife

1916

My father, Arthur Roberts, was born in Johnstown and lived in Buckley. His civilian occupation was as an electrical fitter. His father was Christopher Roberts, 46, Church Road, Buckley.

My father's military service record states that while he was in the Royal Naval Air Service he was "afloat from 22.2.1917 Campania."

On 6.7.1922, he received British War and Victory medals for his service in the R.A.F. The R.A.F. had been formed on 1st April 1918 in response to German bombing of the south-east of England. Airmen had served before that in the army and navy.
