NOTES FOR CAROL
Welcome everyone to the Official Opening of the refurbished Coronation
Gardens.
I am delighted to advise everyone that the Garden layout has been retained
from its original 1953 design, the roses to the front of the Gardens are red,
white and blue and the shrubs in the main body of the Garden are designed
to attract wildlife and provide a sensory experience of different scents.
There are a number of people and organisations I would like to thank with
regard to achieving the refurbishment of the Gardens these are:-
-Mrs Mary Wright - who through her voluntary detailed research into
various aspects of the Town of Buckley was able to discover that the Gardens
had originally been approved for Transfer to the Town Council in April 1974,
but thanks to Mrs Wright we had them Transferred in May 2009.
-The Town Council Members who have supported this project since the
decision was taken to proceed with it and to the Clerk for all his efforts over
an extended period to get to where we are now.
-Flintshire County Council and in particular the efforts of the Regeneration
Team to provide access to and support in applying for the necessary funding
to achieve the end result.
-Wright Landscapes for an excellent job in completing the renovation works.
-Finally the people of Buckley who in 1953 came together to produce the
Gardens to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. For the
people who donated the land and for all those residents of Buckley who gave
their time and effort freely to create the Gardens.
I would urge all local businesses and residents to keep an eye on the Gardens
to ensure that they are not subjected to vandalism and anti social behaviour
in order that they may provide enjoyment for the people of Buckley for many
years to come. If anyone becomes aware of any vandalism or anti social
behaviour, please contact either the Town Council or North Wales Police.
Many thanks.
I now declare the Gardens open again for the public to enjoy.
If all guests present would like to return to the Town Council Offices,
refreshments are laid on for them.
