Seen here in the centre of the picture is guest of honour, Mrs Winnie Cropper, aged 98, whose family originally donated the land for the gardens in the early 1950s. She was very pleased to see the refurbishment, "I couldn't believe my eyes. It's so big and beautiful. They've put railings up so hopefully we won't have any trouble with vandals and people can take their children there and enjoy them like they're supposed to be enjoyed and get some pleasure out of them."
