THANK THE REV. WANDERERS!
BUCKLEY WANDERERS 3.……LLAY WELFARE 1
Two more points on Saturday lifted the Wanderers into second place in the Welsh National League. And for that they can thank the Rev. David Saunders.
He willingly turned out for the club after officials had heard that regular goalkeeper Eric Weaver could not get off work.
Rev. Saunders, minister of St. John's Congregational Church, Buckley, came to the area 15 months ago. Although it was his first outing in the team, he had a good game.
All the goals came in the second half. Inside-left Dicky Miles put Buckley ahead direct from a free-kick in the 55th Minute.
But afterwards they found it tough to get through Llay's stubborn defence.
With ten minutes to go centre-forward Geoff Chamberlain got goal No. 2 and the third came three minutes later from Garry Roberts.
W. Wineyard scored for Llay with practically the last kick of the match.
Said the Rev. Saunders after the game "Football is in my blood. I have been reared on it. I am at home watching or playing, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself this afternoon."
