THE TEAMS

Buckley are not new to Welsh Amateur Cup honours though it is 50 years ago since they last won the trophy, beating Aberystwyth 1-0 in the final at Newtown, in 1911. They also beat Aberystwyth in the final in 1907 and won the cup for the first time in 1906.

Since 1950 they have won the Welsh National League (Wrexham area) cup three times and were champions in 1956.

Centre forward John Jones, a former Welsh Schoolboy international and ex-Everton player is their ace marksman, having scored 78 goals so far this season.

Goalkeeper Ashton is ex-Flint and Ellesmere Port. Fullback J.Thomas was formerly with Holywell Town, and F.Cooper won an amateur medal when with Connah's Quay Nomads in 1953. They have a powerful half-back line and two speedy wingers in sportsmaster Stan France and ex-Holywell player Derek Hibbert. Inside forwards Coldrick and W.Smith are both noted as clever ball players.
