The Animals Supplies Department from Chester Zoo visited the Lower Common a few days after a brash clearance had taken place. The branches were removed and expertly loaded into the trailer to provide food for giraffes, rhino and elephants. The branches were also to be used in the birds' cages. The members of the zoo staff commented that the branches were easier to manhandle when they were bare of leaves.
