Saints Days and Holy Days-

March 25th, Annunciation of The Blessed Virgin Mary,

In previous years it has been the custom to hold a celebration of the Holy Communion for members of the Mothers Union on this day. The Festival falls this year on a Sunday. The Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8-30. We appeal to all the members to make a special effort to attend.

Holy Week and Easter Day Services will be published in the April Magazine, which we hope will reach all subscribers on Palm Sunday April 1st.

St. Cecilia - The Lenten week night Service will be held at this Church on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m and not on Thursday nights as announced in the February Magazine.

Parochial Tea - This annual event was held at the Parish Room on Monday January 30th and proved a greater success than ever. There were more people present than on any previous occasion. The room looked at its best, and all present were in real festive mood which added greatly to the enjoyment and the success of the entertainment. The arrangements were in the

hands of a committee of ladies representing the three churches. Tea was served at 7 and the rest of the evening wall spent in dancing and other amusements. During the interval between tea and dancing a short musical programme was given by the following Artistes: Mr Ellis, Old Station Road, Miss W Spencer, Messrs O D Hayes, and Frank Roberts. Mr Ellis possesses a splendid Baritone voice and his singing was greatly enjoyed, as was also the item given by Miss Spencer. Messers Hayes and Roberts's contributions as usual created roars of laughter. The Vicar gave a resume of the work done during the past year. He expressed his

pleasure at seeing so many present. The Parochial Tea was a family gathering of Church people where confidences could be ex-changed. In looking back upon the

past year they had every reason to be thankful, it had been in every respect one of progress. The congregations at all the Churches had been very good, and a great improvement in this respect had been evident both at All Saints and St. Cecilia. He however appealed to

the officers of the Church viz, The Sidesmen, Members of the Parochial Church Council and other Church organisations to be more regular at the Sunday morning services. The collections were above the average and he had no fault to find with them, but he asked those who were irregular in their attendance at Church to make up for the times they were absent by giving a substantial offering. The Church Wardens had a great responsibility to bear and they deserved every help. The Parish Church was assessed at £40 a year towards the Parochial Fund, he thought that too high an assessment and suggested that it should be reduced at the next Easter Vestry. The Choristers had been very faithful during the past year and had done their best, and the teachers at the various Sunday Schools had been very regular in their attendance. The little Church at Mynydd Isa had recently been redecorated and the Electric Light installed. Various improvements had been carried out in the Parish Room since the last Parochial gathering. There was a rumour being circulated not by the Church people of Bistre who knew better, that some of the money taken at the Parish Room was used to swell the Parochial Fund. He denied that rumour as being a pure fabrication. The Parochial Church Council had recently acquired the field adjoining the Church yard at a cost of £300, of that sum they had just over £100 in hand, he felt confident that the remainder would soon be found. The Church Cottage was now free from debt. It was the intention

of the Parochial Church Council to hold a Fete sometime in June. The proceeds of the last Fete amounted to £94. He hoped the next would reach £120. In conclusion the Vicar thanked all for listening to him so patiently and trusted that they would spend an enjoyable evening.

It is interesting to note that seven of the parishioners of Bistre occupy the highest position that the Church can confer upon a layman, viz the office of Church Warden, Two at Bistre Church, One at All Saint's, one at St. Cecilia, two at St. Matthew's, one at

Pontblyddyn.

Obituary - It is with sincere regret that we record the death of Master Kenneth Wood. His sudden and untimely demise cast quite a gloom over the whole parish. Kenneth was a faithful worshipper at St. Cecilia where his father Mr P Wood has filled the office of

Church Warden for many years. His was a promising young life, a real example of fidelity, innocence and earnestness, a true pattern of what a young life should be. He was laid to rest, amid every manifestation of regret, at Bistre Churchyard on Wed. Feb. 15th, the

Service being fully Choral. We tender our sincere sympathy to the parents and family in their sad bereavement, and pray that God in His mercy may give them strength to bear the heavy burden laid upon them.

'May he rest in peace'
