R. Ashton & Co. operated from Knowle Lane Brickworks off Church Road Buckley and when the Wrexham Mold and Connah's Quay Railway Co. took over the Buckley Railway Company in 1866, the stretch of railway from Old Ewloe Works up to R. Ashton's works became known as Ashton's Branch Line.
R. Ashton operated from Knowle Lane Brickworks from 1841 to his death in 1867 after which it was leased to Frederick and Richard Prince. The name Ashton's however stuck with the works and the branch line for many years after.
