Reverend D. Emrys James, Vicar of Saint John's 1908 to 1911: includes his hymn 'Buckley'"

1910

Dewi Emrys James wrote the words and the music to this hymn.

In Dennis Griffiths' papers in the Record Office is a page of the hymn published in London by Joseph Williams Limited, 32, Great Portland Street, W.1., on which Dewi Emrys James has written: To Mr Dennis Griffiths With Every Good Wish D. Emrys James.

On top of the page, in another hand, is written: Please leave on organ.

BUCKLEY

The King of Kings is coming

To make the world his own;

The children of the nations

Shall gather round His throne.

He wore a crown of sorrow,

His life for all he gave,

He smote the prince of darkness,

And he alone can save.

The King of Kings is coming

To fill our hearts with song;

His joy will make us joyful,

His strength will make us strong.

Despised and rejected,

He triumphed over shame;

His cross is white with glory,

The glory of His name.

The King of Kings is coming

To set the captive free,

To give to every nation

The joy of Jubilee.

The bruis'd and heavy laden

Shall find in Him repose;

The earth shall shout with gladness,

And blossom as the rose.

The King of Kings is coming,

His banner lifted high;

No longer shall the faithless

His majesty deny.

Proclaim aloud, ye faithful,

That war shall be no more,

That He, the King of glory,

Shall reign from shore to shore.

GEIRIAU CYMRAEG

Mae Brenin y brenhinoedd

Yn ymdaith fel y dydd;

Mae'r nos yn dianc rhagddo,

A'r caeth yn mynd yn rhydd.

Fe wisgodd goron adfyd,

Dioddefodd yn ein lle;

A dyma ninnau'n canu

Mai teilwng yw Efe.

Mae Brenin y brenhinoedd

Ar flaen Ei fyddin gref,

A'r anial yn blodeuo

Gan faint Ei degwch Ef.

Aeth picell lem i'w galon

Ar fynydd Calfari;

Ond arf gorchfygwr heddiw

Uw croes ein Harglwydd ni.

Mae Brenin y brenhinoedd

Yn cynnig inni hedd;

Mae gobaith y cenhedloedd

Yn olau ar Ei wedd.

I'r llwythog a'r blinderog

Mae'n rhoddi esmwythad;

Mae'n dwyn gorfoledd nefol

A heddwch i bob gwlad.

Mae Brenin y brenhinoedd

Yn galw'r llwythau 'nghyd;

Dan faner wen Ei gariad

Y paid rhyfeloedd byd.

Fe ddaeth Ei Hun i'r anial

At blant y cystudd mawr;

Mae pob diddanwch ynddo,

Mae'n degwch nef a llawr.
