Stone Crushing machine made by Jonathan Rowlands and Company at the Foundry"

Foundry, Brunswick Road, Buckley

1895

I remember a pan of exactly the same design working for many years at the Old Works (Bottom yard) to crush the silica which came by lorry load daily from the CFBC's quarry at Bryn Mawr in South Wales. It was located on the large shed next to the road and almost opposite the General Office. My father used to go to this quarry two or three times a year to inspect it and would stay at the "Angel" Hotel in Abergavenny. The quarry was leased to the Duke of Beaufort, to whom he paid the rent. The Duke always gave him 10/- back, which he used to pass on to me. Riches, then!
