Mrs Mayes and son, Victor, two of the evacuees who came to Buckley"

45, Padeswood Road, Buckley

1940

I remember Mrs Mayes and her son, Victor, coming to stay with us at 45, Padeswood Road. They were evacuated to Buckley in about 1944 from London when the V1 bombs were falling there. They stayed over the summer. They later returned there and the V2s started again and, despite my mother trying to contact them, we never heard from them again. They lived in a part of London that was heavily bombed after they returned.

See The Making of Buckley and District by TW Pritchard, p.309 for an account of the help the WRVS gave to evacuees to Buckley from London. - ed.
