DIRECTOR'S NOTES
The play you will see this evening is concerned with the history of the town in which our school is situated. However, I must point out that dramatic licence has been a constant factor in our efforts. I mention this because there may well be some in the audience who will know of the events and may well disagree with our interpretation.
May I say in our defence, that the performance is, in the nature of things, an exercise, which we trust you will find interesting and enjoyable. The performance is almost entirely written by the children using techniques taught in drama lessons and drama club. You may well find the staging rather unfamiliar. This is again a development of the drama lesson in an attempt to make the audience feel part of the action. The documentary style which we have tried to develop is one used in educational drama and in professional theatre with increasing frequency, especially in some of the new civic theatres.
Finally, my thanks to all the staff of the school for their help and support, the cast for the tremendous amount of effort and time they have devoted and finally to Mr. Dennis Griffiths whose books provided a fund of information about the town.
I thank you for your support and hope you enjoy the performance.
