A Tivoli Poster for Price Alteration"

Tivoli, Brunswick Road, Buckley

1926

It is not known to which strike this refers. The phone number 59 was being used in 1927. In 1953 it was 259. It is possible that the references to the general strike of 1926, though there were several strikes.

TIVOLI THEATRE BUCKLEY

ALTERATIONS IN PRICES

Dear Sir (or Madam)

We beg to inform you that we are reluctantly compelled to raise our present prices. This course of action was decided on last may, but was postponed owing to the strike. We would point out that our seats at present are 100% to 300% lower in price and more comfortable than any seats in similar theatres giving similar shows in any part of the United Kingdom, and IT IS NOT OUR WISH THAT THEY SHOULD BE OTHERWISE, but certain facts have to be faced; these are;

FIRSTLY. We have great difficulty in getting first class shows to THINK of coming to Buckley owing to the size and population of the town.

SECONDLY. We CANNOT get them to entertain in Buckley without GUARANTEEING THEM A SALARY in addition to shares of the Box Office takings. We are therefore reluctantly forced to one of the three following alternatives;-

A. Revert tp pictures

B. Give a poorer type of music hall entertainment, as is usual in small towns

C. Keep our present high class shows and raise the prices

  1. R

We believe all our patrons will agree that the best and wisest course is the last named, which we have adopted.

THE NEW PRICES ARE

Dress Circle : Family Circle and Orch. Stalls : Circle : Stalls : Pit

ADULTS: 2/4 2/- 1/6 1/3 8d

Halves: 1/- 1/- 8d 8d No Halves

We would further point out that at the NEW PRICES we are giving a seat and an entertainment the like of which is not equalled by any other theatre in the United Kingdom and we challenge anyone and everyone to find a theatre, other than the Tivoli that is doing it.

THESE NEW PRICES WILL COME INTO FORCE ON MONDAY DEC. 27TH

We trust our patrons and the public generally will fully appreciate the foregoing reasons for the necessary alterations in prices, and we would like to take this opportunity of assuring them that as we have done our level best in building them a really good theatre, furnishing and fitting it comfortably and efficiently, in like manner we are doing (and will continue to do) our level best to bring to Buckley the best companies obtainable, and we feel satisfied that if the Public will give us their wholehearted support, NOTHING WILL BE TOO GOOD FOR BUCKLEY, We therefore solicit your help and co-operation,

And remain, Yours faithfully, BUCKLEY PICTURE HOUSE LTD.
