Etna Park, Buckley

The Deeside Urban Wildlife Group changed its name in Autumn 2005 to NEWWildlife

The section in issue 39 of "Wildlife Matters" produced by the Flintshire Countryside Service, states:

ETNA SSSI car park underway.

Etna is a restored landfill site owned by Flinthsire County Council on the northern side of Buckley and close to Ewloe. Its 22 hectares is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its Great crested newt populations. It's also a popular local beauty spot and the start of the well-known Buckley Heritage Trail.

Plans have now been developed for a new car park and re-surfacing of the circular footpath route on the site of the old landfill entrance. Buckley Town Council have contributed to the project, as have Anwyl Construction and the Countryside Service who have developed the final plans. Work will commence in November and should be complete by the New Year.

Issue 40 of "Wildlife Matters", Spring 206, states:

ETNA SSSI car park

The long awaited car park improvements at Etna have been completed this winter by Flintshire's Highways Department. The old concrete base of the landfill site has been tarmaced, and is now a small but high quality car park for visitors to the park and the Buckley Heritage Trail. The path network has also been upgraded to a system of broad lanes, ideal for wheelchairs and buggies.
