Private J H Bewley"

The report below was written by James Downey, who was Buckley Correspondent for the local press - specifically at this time, for the North Wales Pioneer. He kept a scrapbook of his reports on all aspects of Buckley and extracts on those killed, missing, gassed or wounded from June to December 1916 were included. The scrapbook has been kept by his family. The date of his report is given in each of the entries.

 

Private James Hughes Bewley 1897 - 1916, Royal Welch Fusiliers

 

August 24th 1916

 

Private J.H. Bewley, of Alltami, near Buckley, who was reported last week to have been seriously wounded, is now officially reported to have died from his wounds in an Egyptian hospital. Private Bewley, who was only 19 years of age, was attached to the R.W.F., the son of Mr. Edward Bewley, and previous to enlisting was engaged on Government work at Queensferry. He had been on active service for three months.
