Letter from James Bentley to the Editor of The Chronicle:
"These Brave Lads"
Sir,
The two enterprising youths who are about to reopen the Palace Cinema, Lane End, Buckley, we wish every success and prosperity in this venture, and we welcome the breath of enterprise in Buckley after the stagnation and lassitude of recent times.
This gesture may indeed be the precursor of several to make Buckley a bright, prosperous and go-ahead community, or may prove a monetary flare-up over a desolate patch of apathy.
An encircling population, or immediate prospects of such development, must be offered by our Council, not only to our two intrepid adventurers but to the whole of the business community in the area.
We want "curtain up" with the backing of the Buckley people in support, and the Buckley U.D.C. in local development must be the "curtain raiser."
Do these brave lads know to what they have come? They need a planned supporting population around their cinema. We applaud them, but also commiserate with them as things are at present.
