Samuel Hughes, my grandfather, took over a newsagent's next to the Parish Rooms in Lane End in the 1920s (see 6.32 for an advert). In 1937 he arranged for 2, 4 and 6, Park Walk to be built, one of which has remained a family home. He paid to have electric light installed in Saint John's Church. With his expertise gained in the brickworks he made garden ornaments.
