This rent book was used by my father and Mr W. P. Grant while he rented the shop from August 1961 until my father sold it to Mr Cropper, when it became a post office. The last date in the book is Feb.8th 1964. He paid £1 a week throughout his tenancy. The payment period varied from three weeks to eleven.
Mr Grant was an upholsterer and his son today (Jan. 2006) has an upholstery business in the shop in Brunswick Road formerly run by Mr and Mrs Jackson as a greengrocers.
