Gertie was my mother. Rose worked in the Board School as deputy head but she died at 23 from a brain tumour. My mother told me she had fallen off her bike and hurt her head. Gertie died in 1988 aged 93. Gertie's husband, Noah, died in 1950; he was a trombonist in the Royal Buckley Town Band. Noah's brother, Jack Griffiths was a lone bugler who led William Gladstones funeral cortege from Hawarden Castle to Broughton Station en route to his burial at Westminster Abbey, late 19th century.
