Eliza (Lila) Peters, nee Collins, was born in Buckley on 25th February 1912. She attended both the Board School and St. Matthew's School and was confirmed at Bistre Church. Lila married George H. G. Peters of The Old Warren, Broughton at Penymynydd Church on 5th Sugust 1935 and they had two children, Lelia and Howard.
Before her marriage, Lila was employed in domestic service as a parlour maid where she lived-in at "The Palace", St. Asaph for the first Archbishop of Wales and Mrs Edwards; "Hafod-y-Coed", Tremerchion, for Lord and Lady Mainwaring; "Denna Hall", The Wirral for Sir Richard and Lady Summers; and "Weatherstones", The Wirral for Mrs Herron, a shipping magnate's widow.
At the age of 17, Lila had a serious road traffic accident but, undeterred, on her recovery, she continued her duties in domestic service until her marriage.
Lila joined in the community of Buckley by becoming a founder member of Hawkesbury Ladies Guild together with her sister, Hilda Edwards. She became a committee member of Buckley British Legion with her sister who was their secretary. Through their hard work and fundraising with the help of other lady committee members, they gained the first ever flag for the Ladies' section, of which they were very proud. Lila became a member St. Matthew's Church Mothers' Union and a life-long member of All Saints Church.
Lila and George were able to celebrate their 60th (Diamond) wedding anniversary in 1995 and received a telegram from The Queen, congratulating them both on their special day.
Due to the premature death of her parents, Lila was reared from the age of seven by her grandparents, Sarah and Thomas Edwards at the family home, Ivy Cottage, 139, Brunswick Road, which was built together with the Baptist Chapel next door, also All Saints Church by Sarah's father Edward Jones and brothers, builders of Buckley who specialised in chimney and kiln building the the U.K. and Ireland.
