This was sent to Frank Dawson, Chris Dawson's father, who was licensee of the City Arms in Chester where Bert used to down a few before moving to New York, where it looks as if he downed even more! He wrote to Frank on 24th december 1959 from New Hyde Park, Long Island, New York. Below is the text of parts of the letter. See 159.5 for a 1961 Christmas card to Frank at the City Arms.
Dear Frank Dawson
Among the many "glad tidings" from Eng, (some were NOT so glad), came a long newsy letter from an old Bromboro' neighbour - Tim Webster - & it included a surprise Xmas greeting from your good self. Thanks a lot Frank & a "big hand" to you... How are things in dear old Chester? You know, I look every week through "MACS" pigeon notes in my F. Echo but never see a word about Chester Homers. I hope the Society hasn't folded up!....I have since received a private greetings card from the Everton F.C. Supporters' Federation Club, so it's nice to know that one is not forgotten or maybe it's absence that makes the heart grow fonder.... Hope you like the enclosed card. Maybe you will wonder how I got a sketch of your pub. Will leave you to guess.....
Yours aye
Bert Wright
