Mole's Chip Shop"

Mole's Chip Shop, Brunswick Raod, Buckley

1965

I moved to the old shop on 12th September 1966; then to the shop in the Precinct on March 6th 1973 and remained there until June 14th 1986 when I went into semi-retirement. I now make sticks as a hobby.

I remember that the step into the shop was always very damp. When the building was demolished to make way for Precinct Way we discovered a well underneath, so no wonder it was damp!

**********

The shop started off as a stable; the area around the building used to be called the stable yard. Arowsmiths started the chip shop. Then John Peters; after John Peters his son-in-law took over - Jim Kendrick. In 1955, John Mole took it over and then in 1966, I took over. The shop and the land was owned by Edgar Mole, who ran the shoe shop.

The shop on the left was owned by Arthur Jones.
