The first Buckley Town Football Team"

1900

This photo appeared in an unknown newspaper about 60-70 years ago. A clue to the age of the article is in how the roads are noted (eg. Tram-road).

A further clue appears in "Development of Libraries in Flintshire" by John Beagan: this was submitted as a thesis for the Fellowship of the Library Association. In this account, R.J. Williamson, mentioned below in the newspaper text as being alive, was appointed librarian and caretaker in January 1916, after doing the two jobs on a temporary basis for six months after the previous librarian, Mr Robert James Chesters, the grandfather of Joe Chesters. Mr Williamson died suddenly during the winter of 1943-44. Any further information on this photo would be welcomed.

Buckley Stalwarts of 50 years ago

 

This picture is of the first Buckley Town football team of 50 years ago. They played on the same field in Brunswick-road as is used by the present Town F.C. Most of the players and committee are now dead but four of them are still living in Buckley.

Mr Richard Tarran, Tram-road, is the secretary of the Shepherds Friendly Society Lodge

Mr R. J. Williamson is Librarian of the Buckley Council Free Library

Mr Thomas Catherall is a retired brickworker, and lives at Spon Green

and Mr George Ellis also lives at Nant Mawr, Buckley
