12 June 1899
This letter and the one under 191.18 were written to Ona Parry's (nee Panton) mother and father, Frank and Maria (nee Shone), prior to their wedding by the groom's parents. The Pattie referred was the nickname for Martha, Franks's sister. The couple lived in Knowle Lane and two of their children, Pattie and Harry, were named after Frank's brother and sister. Maria was the youngest of four.

Dear Maria
It seems to me only fitting that I should write you in the event that is so near your and our hearts, and to declare you as a daughter which you are so soon to become to us, and which from the little chance of observation which we have had both myself and wife most heartily do most heartily in believing that you are most worthy so to become. And we pray that the love which we offer to you may ever be blessed. May it grow ever with God's blessing. We would much like to be with you on Wednesday but that cannot be. The distance is so great but our hearts will not be distant. We shall be with you in the spirit and breathe forth a prayer for God's greatest blessing upon you both. As Pattie will be with you before you get this she will tell you all news about her. Also kind regards to your mother and in conclusion again accept the best wishes of
A loving
Father & mother
