Miners' Pick Axe used in the Buckley Collieries"

1900

I was given this pick axe by the late Ted Roberts of Well Street in about 1995. Its date is not known but it was said to have been used in the pits of Buckley. The axe is not long as the seams worked were only 3' - 3'6". There was another version with a head removable from its clip for sharpening ready for the next shift. These pick axes were not made in Buckley but were sold in shops such as Owens', 96, Brunswick Road. I have now (May 2007) donated it to the Flintshire Museum Service.
