In September 2007, it was reported that the school's Eco Committee, having already gained the school Eco Schools Status, had won a nomination for the School of the Year title in Trinity Mirror Cheshire/ ScottishPower Your Champions Awards. The six-strong committee of pupils had to write an Eco Code, which they did in the form of a rhythm rap, and carry out a review to assess the school's performance in a number of environmental areas. The next step was an action plan with four ideas - water bottles for pupils, an Eco Awareness Week, school gounds development and energy saving. The team wrote to locals explaining the intention to plant trees along the school's perimeter.

In July 2013, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary. On Friday 12th July, there was a fancy dress/1960s/school fete. At this event, suggestions were to be taken for items to be included in a time capsule.
