The base marking of a Powell buckley pot"

Powell's Pottery, Pentre Lane, Buckley

1911

This vase (see entry 28.82 for image of vase) was made at Powell's pottery in the Willow and the letter 'C' is believed to indicate that it was made by Charles Collis who worked for Mr. Powell.

Charles Collis worked at the Della Robbia Pottery, which ran from 1894 - 1906, in Birkenhead and his sister reported that he used to come to Buckley in his holidays to make pots and would have worked in Buckley c.1900 - 1911. This inscription proves that he did make pottery in Buckley.

Martin Harrison states that Collis went on to work for Royal Doulton.
