THE HEIGHT OF THE BELLTOWER

In January 2014, the Buckley Society was asked the height of the belltower of Saint Matthew's Church.

The height of the original tower was 90 feet 10 inches, per T.W. Pritchard's The Making of Buckley and District p.200

states that the original tower was reduced to 56 feet and then built up to 72 feet.

Geoff Parting, of the Saint Matthew's bellringers, says that there is no official record that he knows of of the correct height but the 72 feet plus c. 3 feet for the battlements taking it to c.75 feet is the most accurate figure.
