In mid April 2005, a live 18" WWII incendiary explosive with three fins was deposited in a domestic skip in Nercwys Road, Mold from where it was transported through Mold to the Brookhill landfill site. It could have exploded at any time.
AD Waste site supervisor, Mr Gary Plant, discovered it, evacuated the area, leaving a 100 metre exclusion zone at the site entrance, and arranged for the police and the Environment Agency to attend. The police notified the Army Bomb Disposal Team from Liverpool to carry out a controlled explosion. Six engineers were unable to leave the site and they stayed 800 metres away until the bomb had been made safe.
In October 2008, it was reported that AD Waste was in financial difficulties partly due to unforeseen costs associated with the closure of Brookhill as a landfill site.
