Brook House had been in Harry Hughes' family since it was built for £200 in 1866 by his great-grandfather. Nelly Hughes (nee Peake) was Harry Hughes' mother and was born in Ramsbottom.

It was sold with the land surrounding it and was due to be developed for housing. Early in 2006 the housing development was well underway.
