2003
In June 2003, Glenys Hughes was awarded the M.B.E. for her work in the Red Cross. She became a full member of the Red Cross in 1948; the Buckley cadet officer in 1962; the commandant in 1967. She was awarded the British Red Cross Society's badge of honour and was given a life membership certificate in 1975. In 1998, she was awarded the Bruhin Cup for leadership. Soon after her M.B.E., she was nominated for the Chronicle - Scottish Power Your Champions Award and in September 2003 was selected as the representative for Flintshire in the Community Person of the Year section. Her nomination went forward with others from Flintshire to join nominees from each of the Chronicle's circulation areas. In October she was awarded the Community Person of the Year for her work with the Red Cross and her church.
