see 1.283 for a picture of the children at the side of the railway
As children in the fifties we used to stand on the fence at this location and wave to the engine drivers as they passed. On a couple of occasions we were given a ride by generous drivers up the gradient towards Buckley on the footplate. On several occasions however the engine drivers took great delight in making steam hiss out from the underside of the engine which would envelop us until the engine passed.
McDonalds and the OK Diner are now situated just over the bank on the right where this photograph was taken.
