This is Robin with his friend, Sid Ellis. How they met is a funny story. When his parents decided to leave Cardiff and return to Buckley, Robin now had to look for a new school. It was decided he might go to Saint Matthew's Boys School - Head, James Tyson.
The previous evening he was with his cousin, Norman Griffiths, who said, "Come with me. I want to give a lad a good hiding. He promised me that if I taught him to ride his bicycle then I should have a ride! Well, he had me running all around Buckley, and when he came to his house, he just went in." So this boy was duly sought out, and made to see the error of his ways!
The next morning, the headmaster took Robin to his classroom of boys and said, "Do you know anyone here?" He looked around and spotted that boy. "I know him, sir." "Well, go and sit by him, then."
They were friends throughout their teenage years. Sid was an only child and in his teens his parents went to live in Padeswood, as Robin and his parents did later on in 1931.
