WOMEN MUNITION WORKERS
A special meeting was held in the Free Library on Saturday in connection with the National Union of General Workers. Mr Fleming, organising secretary, who addressed the gathering, asked whether women employed on munition work were being paid in accordance with the Munitions Act? Were their working conditions what they should be? Were they receiving proper treatment? Was proper and adequate accommodation provided for females? Finally he urged those present to join the union so as to ensure better conditions. A branch was opened for Buckley, with its headquarters at The Cosy, Mr W. Lamb being appointed secretary.
