The memorial was funded mainly by locals and erected at Saint Matthew's School in 1921.

The plaque in the wall to the left and the memorial were transferred from the school.

Mary Birks of Lane End age 74 buried 18th Mar 1885

Catherine Birks of Lane End age 32 buried 23rd May 1889

Robert Birks of Lane End age 51 " 31st Aug 1892

Samuel Birks of Lane End age 47 " 12th Nov 1899

Mary Birks of Garden Court age 59 " 29th Dec 1917

Also found this sad one at St Mary's Broughton [next to the former workhouse]

John Birks of The Workhouse, Broughton buried 20th September 1910 aged 69 years
