KNOWL HILL TRAMWAY EXCAVATIONS DURING JANUARY 1994

This shows the continuous stone causeway at the upper section, from the siding to Mount Brickworks. This stretch exposes a continuous causeway of adjacent blocks. These preceded the laying of iron tram plates in this section. It was easier to excavate in the winter months as there was less vegetation.

Some of the burnt clay blocks used along the edge had "Hancock & Co Buckley Hawarden" imprinted. on their base.
