December 1955
Buckley Old Age Pensioners Committee.
This committee was formed when the Prisoners of War Committee was wound up, and consisted of members of the P.O.W. Committee at first.
My parents, Mr and Mrs Josh Hayes, were members of both committees, and when they decided it was time for them to "retire" I joined the OAP Committee as their replacement, and acted as treasurer until 1966 when I gave up all voluntary committee work due to ill health. Mrs Laura Watkin took over as Treasurer.
The Pensioners Committee arranged summer outings for the old people with 6 or 8 coaches picking them up around the district and taking them home afterwards. The outings were to Rhyl and tea was provided for them at one of the cafes on Rhyl front.
Each winter, the Committee organised a tea party for the old folk, usually in the Albert Hall. Similar transport for the Party was also laid on.
The Committee raised funds for both of these events throughout the year with social events, raffles, donations, etc.
