In WWII, a string of German bombs landed across the area of the common. The last of them landed unexploded opposite the land between Ivy House and Oakley on the Lower Common. It blew in the glass in the pantry window of Oakley. Another landed on the corner of Alltami Road and Bryn Road where in 2005/6 the new house with the curved roof was built.
