Knowl Hill, Buckley

1985

Whitefield Well was a small well on the lower slopes of the hillside. Mr Jackson's horses which were kept on the hill in the 1950s approximately were watered from it. The number of horses fluctuated. The well was destroyed when the clayhole was extended.

Possible site of a WATER CULVERT.

The over-flow channel from Whitefield Well (50 yards up the hillside) probably passed under the tramway at this point. The two stone blocks served as supporting arches, whilst the paved causeway at this point was replaced with wooden sleepers.
