In July 2006, a £10,000 scheme (£5,250 from Flintshire County Council; £3,650 form Buckley Town Council; and a donation from the Royal British Legion) involved enclosing the memorial within the bowling club ground to safeguard it from vandals. The fence cost £8,900.
