6 May 1935
This bonfire was built on the Common to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V. John Hughes, Belmont, we called "Grandad Buckley". Wearing the light suit is his son, Bill Harrison, my uncle, who married Maggie. Wearing the trilby is Bill's eldest brother, Glyn.
The Town Band led the community singing at the end of the day on the Common. A beacon was lit at 10.30 pm by the Chairman of the Buckley Urban District Council on top of the disused Mountain Colliery. This was followed by fireworks.
