Surface workers at the Elm Colliery"

Elm Colliery, Buckley

1911

Most of my male relatives on my Dad's side worked at the Elm Colliery and my grandfather's brother, Arthur Hewitt, was killed at the age of 14 in an horrific accident there in 1914. He had only been working there for a fortnight when a chain broke on a coal tub and he was knocked down. He died at home.
