A newspaper report of 29th April 1898 gives:
THE TABERNACLE
Special Services were held at the Tabernacle on Sunday and Monday, to commemorate the stone-laying of the chapel 23 years ago. A sermon was preached on Sunday by the pastor Rev John Phillipson, and in the afternoon a service of song entitled "Hymns and Tunes of Long ago" was rendered by the choir, accompanied by the Ewloe and Drury Lane String Band, and on the organ by Mr William Hayes.
On Monday, the Rev William Jones, ex-president of the Conference, preached an interesting sermon upon the text: "In my father's house are many mansions," and delivered his popular lecture in the evening on "The Reformation of the 16th Century." At 4 o'clock an excellent tea was provided in the Schoolroom, given by the members of the choir. The effort realised £12.
