SMOKES FOR SOLDIERS
On Empire Day the children of Bistre C.E. School collected and forwarded fifteen shillings to the Over-Seas Club for the purpose of providing cigarettes, etc., for the soldiers. The children requested that the gift be sent to the 5th Royal Welch Fusiliers, as this regiment contained most of their friends. - This week the headmaster received the following messages:- "Private E.G. Kesshaw, R.A.M.C., thanks the scholars of Bistre C.E. School for cigars. Your efforts were both noble and good, and were greatly appreciated by all the Tommies." Sergeant-Major Berry writes: " Being the receiver of the children of Bistre's gift, I express my heartfelt thanks for their donation. My home is at Caergwrle, and receiving the gift from so near I appreciate it all the more."
(The name Kesshaw may be Keeshaw - the text was difficult to read - ed.)
