The Albert Hall was opened as a new entertainment venue in mid 2008 and called The Academy. On June 20th 2009, Tommy Allen, one of the UK's top blues guitarists performed with his band.

The Academy was reported to be gaining a reputation as the top blues venue in the area by this time.

In November 2009, London-based The Cadillac Kings came to The Academy: billed as firm favourites on the blues and jump-jive scene the band features six of the UK's top blues and roots players inspired by the sounds and styles of the 40s and 50s.
