AN INDUSTRIAL AND POTTERY WALK ROUND BUCKLEY - NUMBERS 8 AND 9
8. Turn left down Etna Road. Here is the site of the last working pottery, closed 1942. A housing estate covers the site. At the opposite side of the road in scrubby woodland are the outlines of clay pans and sluice. A swampy ditch hides the entrance of the horse tramway tunnel.
9. At the junction of Church Road and Liverpool Road is the site of Lamb's Pottery. Formerly Sharratt's Pottery, then Buckley Art Pottery. It is of great antiquity. Sharratt is said to have invented a chimney pot which would not smoke back. The pattern is still in use. It is known as a "Lady Broughton" chimney pot. The clay pans were in a hollow below Clayton Cottage. The kiln was below the Parish Church.
