The initials on the pot (inscription "J.D. 1926") stand for Jack Davies. He was the son of Edward Davies who had the artificial arm which is now at the library. Jack Davies had the umbrella stand made for himself at Davison's Pottery. When he died, it went into his sister's possession before it passed in the 1960s to the family members who now have it. At some time in its life, it was used in the garden as the base for a bird table.
